You just received a free safety inspection from a DCH Auto Group service professional. During May, all DCH Dealerships in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and California are offering a free vehicle safety inspection for any car, truck or SUV operated by a teen. It’s our way of demonstrating our commitment to helping teens drive safely.

May is…National Youth Traffic Safety Month
May is an important time for teens to be focused on driving safety. With prom, graduation, and summer trips just ahead, the potential for traffic-related deaths and injuries that involve young drivers and passengers increases alarmingly. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says traffic crashes are the leading killer of teens, with more than 5,000 dying annually.
That’s why DCH Auto Group and other organizations and companies across the country are calling attention to the importance of teen driving safety.
Car Maintenance = Safe Driving
Regular car maintenance is important to keeping your car in top condition, but it is all also vital to you and your passenger’s safety. Here are some maintenance tips to share with your teen that will keep their car on the road and them safe:
· Change the motor oil and filter regularly.
· Keep the battery running and the case clean.
· Don’t ignore brake noises.
· Keep a close eye on tire inflation and tread wear.
· Maintain the cooling system.
· Change the air filter once a year or after 12,000 miles.
· Schedule an appointment at a service facility for a vehicle engine inspection every 30,000 miles.
Defensive Driving Tips
· Always wear your seatbelts.
· When stopping at a stop sign, spell S-T-O-P to yourself before proceeding. Always look left, then right, straight ahead, then left again before proceeding.
· When a light turns green, Notice all vehicles and ensure that someone else is not going to run the light.
· Keep your eyes moving. Notice what is happening on the sides of the road and check behind you through your mirrors every 6-8 seconds.
· Expect the other drivers to make mistakes and think what you would do if a mistake does happen.
· When traveling behind other vehicles, there should be at least a 4 second space between your vehicles.
· Don't talk or text on a cell phone while driving. Phones detract from your ability to concentrate on the road and increase your chance of a collision by 300%.
· Leave early, plan to arrive 10 minutes before the appointed time. Speeding does not increase your ability to arrive on time; rather it only increases your chances of not arriving at all.
· Remember as your speed increases so does your braking distance. If you double your speed, you quadruple your braking distance.
Mindless Driving. Keep It Out of Cars!
DCH Auto Group is committed to helping teens drive safely with its Mindless Driving. Keep It Out Of Cars® initiative, an exclusive, long term, teen-focused, driving-safety community outreach program. The focus is to keep “it”—as in, mindless driving—out of our teenagers’ cars. This means not driving distracted, driving recklessly, or driving under the influence, to name a few.
